Deputy minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services, Lev Partskhaladze announced a new norm regarding the width of the lanes in cities and villages.
The width of one lane In Ukraine is 3,5-3,75 meters, but European practice has shown that roads with less lane widths (3-3,25 meters) subconsciously encourage drivers to drive more cautiously and at a lower speed.
Ukraine will adapt the norm to the European standard and updated rules have already been published. They will come into force on September, 1, 2018.
Main streets of the cities will be 3 meters, highways – 3,5 meters, streets and roads of all other settlements will become 2,75 meters of width.
